“We work to promote Chile not only as a location for filming, but also as a great tourist destination”

The night of March 4 this year was unforgettable for Chilean cinema. For the second time in our history, Chile climbed the podium of the famous Oscars, achieving the golden statuette for the film “A Fantastic Woman”, in the category of Best Foreign Film.

The award came to crown the successful journey of the Chilean film, which won numerous awards at various festivals, including a Goya award, two awards at the Berlin International Film Festival, the Best Foreign Film award at the Black Film Critics Circle, among many others.

Starring transgender actress Daniela Vega, the film tells the story of Marina, whose boyfriend is a conservative family man and much older than her. After a night of celebration, the man dies suddenly, from which Marina will have to face the reproach of the ex-wife and the family of her partner, ashamed that he has fallen in love with a young transgender.

Winning the general applause of both the film industry and the audience, thanks to its attractive visual treatment and a message that calls for reflection, the film shows the drama, humiliations, insults and even police harassment suffered by Marina.

In this way, “A Fantastic Woman” integrates the wide range of audiovisual works made by the Chilean company Fábula Producciones in its 15 years of experience, developing hundreds of productions (film, TV and advertising) that have also been awarded. “Although we have done projects with North American and European capitals, our productions have been seen all over the world,” says Gunther Kaempfe, executive producer of Fábula Producciones.

According to the executive, “thanks to audiovisual projects, the possibility of highlighting the great geographical variety of flora and fauna of our territory is opened, encouraging Chile not only as a location for filming, but also as a great tourist destination.”
